The maker

Callipo

Giacinto Callipo founded the company in 1913 in Pizzo, a Calabrian town long famous for its tuna fishing and tonnare, becoming the first business in Calabria and one of the first in Italy to tin Mediterranean tuna. In 1926 it was named an Official Supplier to the Royal Household. Five generations on, Callipo remains family-owned, processes every stage in Calabria under the slogan 'Storie di mare' (stories of the sea), and uses only yellowfin tuna, clearly stated on every pack, with the best fillets selected and jars filled by hand.
