1883 Maison Routin
Maison Routin was founded in Chambéry, in the French Alps, where herbalist Philibert Routin blended 24 Alpine plants and spices into the Vermouth of Chambéry; the syrup he perfected in 1883 was such a success that it gave its name to the house's flagship line. For nearly a century the production stayed artisanal, and in 1987 Jean Clochet created Lab 1883, the brand's sensory-analysis laboratory where more than a thousand recipes are dreamed up each year. The company still presses its syrups at its La Motte-Servolex plant outside Chambéry, drawing on pure Alpine water and natural cane sugar, and has become a reference for bartenders and baristas around the world.
